I have been using IRCTC since its inception in 2003 and satisfied with the role it has been playing in easing the process. Its truely a boon for people like me from going to the reservation center and standing in long waiting ques, filling forms, etc..IRCTC has studied the consumer base and keeping into mind designed the website for removing irritating elements while booking in a reservation center. One can get information on the available sets on trains of the respective journey, the availability, and the fare. Not only this, the option of a normal ticket and e-ticket has been provided which is of much convenience to many. A normal ticket is generally delivered the very next day of booking and charges are reasonable too. Option of payments is also huge. IRCTC has tie ups with mostly all major banks for internet banking and credit cards. Now comings to the bad aspects of the website. A provison of choosing the berths is provided but it never works according to the preference provided by you. On the other hand the berths are allocated in a weird manner which may or may not be together. This is some logic that the CRIS needs to change. Secondly, the booking functions during the defined hours in a day and is not 24hrs. On an all, with some not upto mark aspects, the service of online rail ticket booking is very good. The website’s speed fluctuates and sometimes the service will be fast and sometimes it will be slow. A single sign on is also missing as navigating to some options requires you to re-enter the password. Then there is something called " Communication error" thats seems to happen every other day. Compare it with Airline sites, and you will know IRCTC has a long way to go. Please do share your feedback , using comment option.
